Kerens ISD (KISD) trustees heard Feb. 27 that a snapshot of young children’s learning in Navarro County showed KISD exceeded county kindergartners assessed on what’s called an early development instrument (EDI).

Little Free Library Opening at Salvation Army Family Store

The opening of the sixteenth Navarro County Early Childhood Coalition’s Little Free Library in Navarro County took place at 1 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Salvation Army’s Family Store, located at 212 E. First Street.

Something exciting happened this week. We got our very own Little Free Library. It’s stationed just outside our gates, next to the road, easily accessible to children in our community and any kids glamping on our property.

Little Free Libraries gain community interest

Take a book, share a book is the motto behind the cute little enclosed book boxes you may have seen popping up in several places all over the county. The Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization promoting neighborhood reading for all age groups and two local women are helping to ensure this endeavor continues to be a staple in our community.

Free Family Scavenger Hunt starts Oct. 17

When Fall Break starts Oct. 17, the Navarro County Early Childhood Coalition will be ready with free fun for families. Children of all ages may visit any or all of the Coalition’s Little Free Libraries to collect points and win prizes. Parents register online to receive instructions, a map of the libraries and a “passport” to stamp.

State awards local volunteer for parenting education

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services has awarded its 2023 Outstanding Parent Award to Laura Martinez, a volunteer for Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services. Martinez received the honor Sept. 14 at the Partners in Prevention Conference hosted by DFPS in Corpus Christi.

Beginning Monday, Nov. 15, childcare workers, who usually have their hands full, will have someone looking after them for a short while. During the week of Nov.16, the Navarro County Early Childhood Coalition will celebrate childcare workers by providing them with “goody bags” and boxed lunches. The Honorable H.M. Davenport will issue a proclamation for Childcare Professionals Appreciation Week.

Final Little Free Library opens in Kerens

This is the 14th LFL that the Navarro County Early Childhood Coalition has erected in the county to support reading and connection for children in the county.

Newest Little Free Library installed

The Navarro County Early Childhood Coalition opened the newest Little Free Library at Country Meadow Nursing and Rehab. This is the 13th library installed and will serve the community around Park Row Blvd. and Navarro Elementary.

Early Childhood Coalition hosts movie night

The Navarro County Early Childhood Coalition recently hosted two free screenings of the movie Inside Out at the Palace Theatre. More than 150 people enjoyed the family favorite, and even got the chance to meet the characters.

Navarro County Early Childhood Coalition set up a Little Free Library at Rice City Hall, 305 N. Dallas St. City Administrator Tonya Roberts and Mayor J. Nicole Jackson officially opened the library box Thursday.

A new Little Free Library has been set up at the MLK Community Center at 1114 E. Sixth St. in Corsicana. Local city councilwoman Ruby Williams help to coordinate the site and said she is excited to share it with her community and the kids who live nearby.

Children's Agencies Offer Free Film on Stress and Health May 21

The Navarro County Early Childhood Coalition offers a free screening of a documentary about children and their overall health. "Resilience - The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope" shows how toxic stress can trigger hormones that wreak havoc on the brains and bodies of children, putting them at a greater risk for disease, homelessness, prison time and early death.

Coalition celebrates Week of the Young Child

To celebrate the Week of the Young Child April 10 through 16, the Navarro County Early Childhood Coalition dropped in on local pediatricians, ob-gyns and school nurses with goody bags. Coalition members even delivered lunch Thursday to Navarro Regional Hospital, Corsicana Pediatrics, The Hope Center, PEDIA Clinic, and local elementary school nurses and other offices.

Parents invited to 'Meet the Pediatrician'

Parents of young children and infants in Navarro County are invited to a special Zoom call at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 14 where Pediatrician Dr. Meredith Johnson and Nurse Practitioner Danika Watson will answer questions and explain the reasons for “well child” visits.

Navarro County's newest Little Free Library has opened at the Manna From Above food pantry in Dawson, at the corner of 709 and Main Street, across from the city park.

Corsicana, Chatfield unveil new Little Free Library

Chatfield's Little Free Library is located at the United Methodist Church at 4937 FM 1603. Corsicana's newest library at Iglesia Bautista Calvario, 606 S. 20th St., offers books in Spanish and more are expected to be added to other library boxes across the county.
